What goes into homemade kombucha?
The SCOBY pouch contains one single ingredient: the live kombucha culture in its own liquid. The kombucha you brew with it is made from tea, sugar, water and the culture, plus whatever fruit, herbs or spices you choose for flavouring. It contains no milk and no animal ingredients. Because it starts from tea, it contains some caffeine. Like every homemade fermented drink, it also contains traces of alcohol, generally under 0.5%.
What does a lively SCOBY look like?
A live SCOBY is a natural thing, so no two look quite alike. It can be pale cream or honey-coloured, smooth or slightly lumpy, thin or thick, and it often has brown strands and darker spots on its underside. All of this is perfectly normal and part of how a living culture looks. If you are ever unsure, send the team a photo: we would much rather look at a picture than have you worry.
Why is service part of the product?
A living culture deserves a bit of company. Write to us in English and our team replies personally within 24 working hours, usually the same day. A photo is often all we need to confirm that everything is on track, and the guarantee takes over if it is not. Why are no two SCOBYs identical?
Because they are living cultures. Colour, thickness and texture vary naturally, without any effect on how well your kombucha turns out.
What does the lifetime guarantee cover?
Your culture's activity: if it stays inactive after being used and kept in normal conditions, we replace it at no cost. Just email a photo and a few words.
